About Masaya Ohara

My history

Before September 2000

After I quit an IT job as a system engineer in Japan, I decided to move to New Zealand.
By the way, when I visited at NZ for the first time was September 1999.

After September 2000

After I studied English at an English school for five months, I stayed here as a working holiday maker from May 2001.

From May 2002

I started a job as a photographer.
At the same time, I traveled in NZ for my photo libraries and improvement of my photo skill. Then I approached many publishers in Japan and NZ to publish my own photo book.
Reed Publishing in NZ welcomed my photos in January 2004, then they decided to release a NZ scenery photo book of mine.
[Results of my photo activities]
- I got a place in a photo book contest in Japan for two years.
- I sent three different photos to International Photography Awards 2005 in the USA. All of them were chosen as 'IPA 2005 Photographer of the year Competition Honorable Mention recipients'.
- I was one of the best 30 in Auckland Photo Day contest in June 2005.

October 2005

I released New Zealand LAND OF CLOUDS as my first book.

November 2006

I released Moods of New Zealand.
I am the first person, who released more than two photo books of NZ scenery, among Japanese people.

Now

I'm doing many things to make my dreams come true.
I live in Auckland now.

I am skillful at not only 'scenery' and 'portrait' but most categories of photography as you can see on 'my works' section.
